Explore: Rose Oaks County Park
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Aug. 24, 2018)
Rose Township, MI- Rose Oaks County Park is an amazing place to explore and get some steps in. People and horses can enjoy over 5 miles of trails in this 640 acre wonderland of nature.
There are woods, wetlands, lakes and meadows. The trails include areas of boardwalks that give an up close look at nature and peaceful views. Six lakes within the park each have their own scenic qualities: Richardson Lake, Esler Lake, Mallett Lake, Cogger Lake, Prairie Lake and Big School Lot Lake. And of course there are the animals that love such wild places, including turtles, birds, frogs, beavers, chipmunks, opossums, deer and a wide array of insects. On a recent adventure through Rose Oaks, the bones and fur of a possum hinted at the possibility of a coyote.
Areas of the park are great for bicycling, boating, canoeing, kayaking, cross-county skiing, horseback riding, fishing, geocaching, hiking, archery hunting, and cozy little areas for picnicking.
There are several trails within this area, but there are printed maps near both entrances, and signs through the park. The map can also be found online HERE. The official address of Rose Oaks is 10501 Buckhorn Lake Rd, but there’s also an entrance at Fisk Lake Road.
