Organizers Cancel 2018 AIDS Walk Detroit, will Focus on 2019
(AIDS Walk Detroit, Aug. 17, 2018)
Royal Oak, MI- Organizers of the 2018 AIDS Walk Detroit, which had been scheduled for Sept. 16, 2018, in downtown Royal Oak, have decided to cancel this year’s event as a result of construction taking place in Royal Oak that made the planned AIDS Walk route unusable.
“As a result of the development construction taking place in downtown Royal Oak and the limited timeframe we had to plan for an alternative location, we decided to cancel this year’s event,” said AIDS Walk Detroit Board of Directors President Teresa Roscoe. “We wanted to be certain that the execution of the 2018 AIDS Walk Detroit was at the highest level for participants, agency partners, corporate sponsors and the overall brand itself.”
The organizers’ focus will now turn to planning and executing an updated event for 2019 that will include:
-Adding new features to the event
-Building on the energy and excitement of a new
2019 AIDS Walk Detroit location within the City of Detroit
-Adding additional event support staff
-Redefining the role of partner agencies
Current Partner Organizations are still able to raise funds through the AIDS Walk Detroit website (www.aidswalkdetroit.org) to support their programs through October 31, 2018.
For nearly 30 years, AIDS Walk Detroit has called on thousands of metro Detroit residents to lace up their shoes and walk to provide financial support for programs in HIV prevention, education as well as services for HIV positive individuals. AIDS Walk Detroit promotes public awareness through events and activities to ensure people living with HIV/AIDS are treated with dignity and respect.
