Boyfriend Charged with Homicide in Death of Novi Woman

Novi, MI – Earlier today, the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office charged Jay Allen Burnett, 34, from Novi, with one count of Homicide-First Degree-Premeditated, punishable by imprisonment for life without the eligibility for parole in the death of his girlfriend.
Burnett was arraigned before Magistrate Victor Zanolli of the 52-1 District Court in Novi, who ordered him held without bond. Burnett will be transported to the Oakland County Jail later this evening. Burnett’s next court date is August 22 at 9:15 am before Judge Robert Bondy at the 52-1 District Court for a probable cause conference.
The charge stems from a domestic incident that occurred on Monday, August 13 in their home on the 26000 block of Indiana Avenue in the Novi Meadows subdivision.
Novi police officers and emergency personnel arrived and upon entry discovered Jamie McManaman, 38, on the floor in the kitchen of her residence. McManaman was pronounced dead at the scene. Injuries to the victim were consistent with a homicide, which included multiple lacerations and stab wounds.
Burnett turned himself into the Michigan State Police Metro North Post around 11:30pm on Monday night as officers, investigators and agents were actively looking for him.
