Special Delivery: Baby Born in Car with Help from Ferndale Police
Ferndale, MI – Demi Meyers got an unusual welcome to the word Saturday, being born into the arms of a waiting police officer from the passenger seat of car at 8 Mile and Livernois.
The mother, Dyona Alexander, had been planning a water birth at Beaumont, but once the contractions began there was not enough time to make it.
Meyer’s father was driving, with Alexander breathing deeply in the passenger seat and three children in the back, when he saw Ferndale Police and stopped to ask for help.
Officers Carly Baetens and Scott Blanchard stepped up to help, and by the time the ambulance arrived, the 7 lb 10 oz baby girl was already in their arms.
Ferndale Police later shared pictures of the happy family who they visited at Beaumont Hospital and they shared their sentiments on Twitter: “Congrats & we are blessed to have been a part of this addition to your family. Hmmmmm…Ofcr Meyers…that has a nice ring to it.”
