Suspect Injured by 15 Foot Fall in Ferndale
(Ferndale Police, July 10, 2018)
Ferndale, MI -On the morning of July 10, 2018, a 44-year-old male resident of Sterling Heights entered a home on the 100 block of Spencer in Ferndale. The home’s female resident had previously obtained a personal protection order against this subject due to prior domestic violence incidents. The female escaped, fled to a nearby business, and called Ferndale police dispatch.
Officers were immediately dispatched to the area. Upon arrival, they witnessed the man run westbound across Woodward Avenue and then southbound on Woodward toward Eight Mile. Following a brief foot chase, officers reached the man, who had climbed over the guardrail along the Eight Mile Service Drive just west of Woodward. After a brief struggle—during which an officer’s department-issued Taser was deployed—the suspect fell approximately 15 feet to the concrete below. He sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries in the fall and was transported to a local hospital.
The Ferndale Police Department has turned over the investigation into the officer’s use of force to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. All evidence, including witness statements and body camera footage, has been released to the Sheriff’s Office.
