Reporter Food: Blissful Smoothie and Go South Wrap at GreenSpace & Go
(Crystal A. Proxmire, July 9, 2018)
Royal Oak, MI- Eating healthy on the go can be a challenge, especially if you seek out vegetarian and vegan options. But GreenSpace & Go at 32867 Woodward Ave Royal Oak MI 48073 (near 14 Mile) is looking to change that. The restaurant has some space for dining in, but focuses on carry-out orders including wraps and bowls full of healthy ingredients.
For my initial visit I opted for the Go South Wrap, which came filled with red quinoa, pinto beans, romaine lettuce, raw salsa, mushroom-onion mix and cashew tzatziki. This had great texture and flavors, and I’m looking forward to trying some of the others.
I also got a side of Mac-and cheese which is made with Banza noodles (aka chick pea noodles), cashew cheese, nutritional yeast and topped with a couple bites of broccoli. As someone who loves traditional pasta and dairy-based cheeses, this was not really my cup of tea. But for those who are seeking a gluten-free spin on an old favorite this could be worth a shot.
I took home a slice of gluten-free berry cake for later, and with my meal I had one of their delicious smoothies. The Blissful smoothie is made with cashew, cinnamon, banana, ashwagandha, spirulina and vanilla-oat milk. Ashwagandha is also known as Indian Ginsing and is reported to help ease stress and improve learning. Spirulina is a super-food that contains protein, B1, B2, and B3 vitamins, copper and iron as well as other nutrients.
GreenSpace & Go is a sister restaurant of GreenSpace Cafe in Downtown Ferndale. The Kahn family, whose patriarch Dr. Joel Kahn preaches heart health and clean eating, opened GreenSpace & Go in April. Learn more at https://greenspaceandgo.com/.
