24 Year Old Drowns Trying to Clean Trash from Clinton River in Pontiac

Pontiac, MI – INCIDENT: 13:40 Hrs. – City of Pontiac – Drowning / OCSO Dive Team Activation – #18-119033
SUMMARY: Deputies responded to the Dawson Mill Pond Dam located in Beaudette Park on a report of a drowning that had just occurred.
Upon arrival, Deputies made contact with the witness who stated that he and the victim went into the Clinton River just downriver of the dam to retrieve lures and garbage from the water. A short while later, the victim began struggling and yelling for help. The witness was unable to get to him because of the strong current so he tried to reach the victim with a stick but was unsuccessful. The victim’s body went underwater and wasn’t seen again.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: Star EMS, the OCSO Dive Team and the Waterford Regional Fire Department responded to assist. Firefighters entered and searched the water and were able to locate and retrieve the victim’s body. The victim was transported to McLaren E.R. where he was pronounced at 14:50 Hrs.
