With Car Wash Gone, Holly Hopes to Attract Investment to Saginaw Street
(Crystal A. Proxmire, June 14, 2018)
Holly, MI – With just under an acre of corner-lot land, kitty-corner from from Ganshaw Park and Bevins Lake, 610 N. Saginaw Street has the potential to be developed into any number of things.
According to Downtown Holly Director Katy Hughes the property is zoned commercial, “the Village would be open to a mixed use development (residential / commercial) if a proposal were submitted that was approved by the DDA.”
The DDA purchased the land that once had a closed-down car wash. They got a loan so they could clean up the property and attract something new to the area, without tapping into their general fund. They were able to get about $25,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding that covered the cost of the demolition. The environmental testing and grant process took months, but the car wash finally came down in early June.
Now it is a flat lot awaiting someone with imagination to put it to good use. “We think this is a wonderful opportunity to continue redevelopment to the midtown district, or the ‘Lakes District’ as it is often referred to.  We are excited to see what kind of development that we can attract to that area,” Hughes said.
The Village is still waiting on an appraisal to determine market value.  Once complete, there will be a big “For Sale” sign on the property. Hughes had some other good news about the sale as well. “The Chair of Holly Main Street’s Economic Vitality Team Jeremiah Roberts also doubles as an accomplished real estate agent who has offered to list the property for us.  And when it sells, he has committed to not accepting any commission for his work to get it sold,”  she said.
Those with questions about the property can contact the DDA office at (248) 634-9571 or send an e-mail to khughes@hollyvillage.org.
