New Owners to Keep Como’s Name and Pizza Theme
(Crystal A. Proxmire, June 6, 2018)
Ferndale, MI – When Como’s Restaurant on the corner of 9 Mile and Woodward in Downtown Ferndale closed down due to repeated Health Department violations last year, they weren’t able to sell their iconic neon sign in the auction. Perhaps this is a good thing for the building’s new owners – Peas & Carrots Hospitality.
The restaurant group announced their purchase today in a press release, along with the fact they are keeping the name and carrying on the tradition of serving up pizza and Italian cuisine to hungry patrons.
Como’s had been a Ferndale staple for over 50 years before poor health inspections and repeated closures brought the family-run business to an end.
Peas & Carrots operates several restaurants including Mex Restaurant in Bloomfield Hills and Social Kitchen & Bar in Birmingham. Ferndale resident Michael Gray will be in charge of the new restaurant, set to open in 2019.
When asked to share details of the new Como’s, Gray said “We are still early in the menu development stages though we have an addictive pizza recipe that’s ready to be unleashed along with some thoughtful, approachable menu counterparts and what is sure to be a robust beer and cocktail program.
“The space is being redesigned with Zack’s [Sklar, co-owner] eye for detail, truly exciting times!”
Ferndale Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Director Barry Hicks said of the announcement “We we’re excited to see Peas & Carrots Hospitality Group taking over the space. Based on their track record I think they will be able to bring something great to Ferndale. I look forward to seeing the final concept.”
