Ferndale Comes Together to Spruce up City
(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 22, 2018)
Ferndale, MI – Over 70 volunteers spent Saturday morning working on clean-up projects throughout the City of Ferndale.  They started with sign in at City Hall then made their way to parks and other areas of the city to clean up debris, plant flowers, spread much, and even share pubic art.
In Downtown Ferndale, the pedestrian alley next to Candle Wick Shop was livened up with a rainbow-colored art installation overhead, planter boxes, seating and a colorful piano for anyone to use.
Another big project was at Memorial Mall in the median of Livernois.  The area has a wall in tribute to community members who lost their lives in war. Students from Ferndale Schools joined forces with grownups to weed and plant flowers.  They also got to see the Department of Public works plant an ornamental evergreen in a spot that once was a flower bed.  These efforts helped ready the area for the Memorial Day Parade which takes place Monday along W. 9 Mile, ending at the Memorial Mall.
Michael Lary, Director of Special Events & Projects, was pleased at the turnout for Clean the Ferndale UP.  “For the past seven years, Clean the Ferndale Up! has brought friends, co-workers and family members together to give some love to Ferndale. They are our local super heroes,” he said.
