Hazel Park, MI – Three cats were found bludgeoned to death and left on Evelyn Street near Caledonia in Hazel Park Thursday evening.
Police are not releasing details as the investigation is still ongoing, but they have assigned a detective to the case. “This was a deplorable act, and we would to see that the perpetrator is brought to justice,” said City Manager Ed Klobucher. “Our police department is investigating the matter, and anyone with information should contact the Hazel Park Police at 248-542-6161.”
This is not the first time the community has been in fear of a cat-killer. In the fall of 2015 four cats that were believed to be feral were found fatally beaten in the 300-400 block of E. George. The deaths occurred between September 25th and October 4th. Those deaths were investigated, but no culprit was found.
Animal cruelty is a misdemeanor in Michigan which could result in jail time or fines. It can also be a felony when resulting in death. Those who need to surrender unwanted animals can contact Oakland County Animal Control at (248) 858-1070. There is more information about animal surrendering here. Hazel Park also has their own Animal Control division, which can be contacted here.
