Pontiac Celebrates the Arts

Pontiac, MI – Downtown Pontiac was bustling Friday evening as the Arts and Cultural Commission hosted the inaugural Arts and Culture Crawl.
Businesses along Saginaw Street hosted performances and art exhibits from creators of all ages.  Among them was rapper Sean Preston who got the crowd excited with chants of “Yaktown don’t back down.”
A couple blocks over, students banged on buckets, demonstrating rhythm and making amazing music. In the same building kids were able to make their own terrariums – complete with plastic dinosaurs.
Through the downtown guests checked out Canvas Pontiac artwork affixed to buildings, as well as art hung temporarily on store windows.  Among the artists were Charlene Dwyer, Brandon Altmas and Chris Culler.  Artist Zack Curtis also did a live mural-painting demonstration. Singers like Shelton Martin, Paula Michelle, Darcey Moran, and Melanie Rutherford and Phat Greasy shared their songs with the public.  Music at the Crawl ranged from jazz, piano, rap and even West African Kora.
