Mobile Homes Damaged after Natural Gas Explosion in Rochester Hills

Rochester Hills, MI – INCIDENT: 15:05 hrs. – City of Rochester Hills – Residential Structure Fire / OCSO Fire Investigation Unit assist – #18-77729
SUMMARY:  Deputies and the City of Rochester Hills Fire Department responded to multiple reports of an explosion and subsequent fire in the 50 block of Bobolink Street.  Upon arrival, there were several mobile homes involved in the fire with one sustaining major structural damage.   A Consumers Energy employee was on the scene and stated that he was replacing a gas meter when a gas line suddenly broke.  Natural gas was spewing against the residence and approximately five minutes later the back of the mobile home exploded.  The Rochester Hills Fire Department extinguished the fire and Consumers Energy shut off the gas to the affected mobile homes. 
 
The owner of the mobile home was at work and not at home at the time of the incident. 
 
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  At the request of the Rochester Hills Fire Chief a Detective from the OCSO Fire Investigation Unit responded to the scene to assist with a cause and origin investigation. There were no injuries were reported.  The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental in nature.
