Man Robbed in Ferndale Foods Parking Lot by Teens with Realistic BB Gun

Ferndale, MI- On April 23, 2018 at approximately 9:00 pm Ferndale Police dispatch received a 911 call reporting a street robbery of a lone male victim who was walking through the Ferndale Foods parking lot at 600 W Nine Mile. The victim said while he was walking north through the lot he was approached by two young men dressed in dark clothing, tennis shoes and both were wearing hoodies with the hoods up. One suspect pointed a black hand gun toward him and yelled at him while the other appeared to be unarmed. Almost immediately the unarmed man began punching the victim and the armed man started hitting the victim with the gun. The victim was beaten in the head and upper body and eventually fell to the ground. Once on the ground the victim started yelling for help and noticed that the men were 
going through his pockets. Fortunately, a good Samaritan saw what was happening and drove his vehicle towards the men causing the suspects to run north into the neighborhood. Now that he was safe, the victim tried to call 911 but realized that the suspects had stolen his phone.
Upon receiving the 911 call officers were immediately dispatched to the area. Two men were eventually located and arrested for armed robbery. Darryl Ash was arrested by a Pleasant Ridge officer on Pinecrest near Cambridge. He was armed with a BB Gun that appeared to be a real firearm. Julius Hunter was arrested by a Ferndale officer on Woodward near W Maplehurst.
Julius Hunter, 17, of Detroit was arraigned by 43rd District Court Magistrate Brennan on a 
single charge of armed robbery. Hunter was given a $50,000 10% cash or surety bond and is scheduled to appear on May 3 at 1:00 pm.
