Student Sends Threats to Shoot up Arts and Technology Academy

Pontiac, MI -INCIDENT:  11:59 hrs. April 18, 2018  – City of Pontiac – School Incident / Threats – #18-71551
SUMMARY:  Deputies responded to the Arts & Technology Academy which is a charter school, located in the 800 block of Enterprise Drive on the report of a student sending threatening texts. Upon arrival, the Deputies made contact with the victim who stated she had received texts from a randomly generated phone number which threatened to shoot up the school. 
Through information gained from other students, the victim discovered that the responsible was a 9th grade student who attends the same school.  When the student was confronted, the responsible admitted that she had sent the text messages.  The student then advised school administrators who contacted the Sheriff’s Office to make a formal complaint.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  Deputies located the responsible student who was currently in attendance inside the school.  The student was transported to the Pontiac Substation where she was interviewed by Detectives.  The student admitted to Detectives that she had sent the text messages.  An Oakland County Juvenile Referee was advised of the circumstances and the request to lodge the responsible at Oakland County Children’s Village was denied.  The student was subsequently released to her parents.  Deputies obtained consent from the student’s parents to conduct a search of the family’s residence.  No weapons were found inside the home.  The incident will be forwarded to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for their review.  The incident remains under investigation.
