Holly Clock Tower Knocked Down in Crash
(Crystal A. Proxmire, March 16, 2018)
Holly, MI – As it laid on the sidewalk, metal mangled and glass smashed, the hands of the Holly Clock Tower remained stopped at the time it was struck by a vehicle that had lost control at the intersection of Saginaw Street and Maple Road.  At 8:37pm Friday night a mini van hit the poll, knocking it completely over.
Witnesses say that the female driver walked away from the accident.  As of 9 pm crews were securing the scene. It is unclear what caused the accident.
Downtown Development Authority Directory and Assistant Village Manager Katy Hughes state “We were saddened to hear that Downtown Holly’s beloved clock was damaged tonight. We hope that the driver who crashed into it will be okay.”
This is not the first time the clock has been run down.  In 2009 the clock was struck during an accident that was reportedly the result of a medical condition according to the Flint Journal.  At that time, the estimated cost of replacement was $24,000.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
Coincidentally, another clock tower in Oakland County was voted to have it’s demise. Royal Oak City Commissioners voted to require the Jim Fresard Clock Tower to be removed within one year’s time.  Read more about that decision HERE.
