Holly Students Learn 5 Tips for Safer Driving

Holly, MI- The Holly High School’s Youth Action Board recently participated in the Strive for A Safer Drive Campaign. The YAB partnered with Ford Driving Skills for Life to obtain a grant to spread the word to Holly student drivers to be safe while they are driving. Their main campaign was 5 to Drive which focuses on 5 things a teen needs to listen to be a safe driver
- No cell phone use or texting while driving,
- No extra passengers,
- No speeding,
- No alcohol or other drugs and
- No driving or riding without a seat belt.
The YAB focused on each issue through the week and had facts read over the announcements about the importance of safe teen driving, had a big showcase of the 5 to Drive facts, put up posters around the school and community, and had a pledge day to give out freebies to those that signed. On Wednesday they partnered with the State Police to bring in a driving simulator and show the dangers of texting and driving.
The YAB also felt it was important to reach out to parents and to let them know that they too need to be safe drivers, not just for themselves, but also to be a good example to their students. So, they created a banner to go over one of the main roads in Holly to warn about the dangers of speeding and also sent home a post card to every 9th-11th grade parent to remind them about being good examples when it comes to driving.
