Two Students Charged with Making a Terrorist Threat at Novi Middle School
(Novi Police, Feb. 27, 2018)

NOVI, MI – February 27, 2018 – On Monday, February 26th, the Novi Police Department investigated a threat against the Novi Middle School. The threat investigation began after a parent reported his child had informed him that a student made a threat during the school day. The Novi Police Department immediately conducted a quick and comprehensive investigation that led to the arrest of two juvenile students.
Novi Police investigators presented their findings earlier today to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for a review of all applicable charges. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office issued the following charge against each involved juvenile:
~One count of making terrorist threat, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
A detention hearing was held at 1pm today at Oakland County Circuit Court. Continued detainment was authorized by the juvenile referee and both suspects currently remain in custody. Their next scheduled appearance for a pre-trial hearing is on March 8th at the probate division of Oakland County Circuit Court.
Investigators have confirmed the juveniles involved did not have access to any weapons in their homes. In an overabundance of caution, the Novi Police Department will continue extra patrols of all schools within the jurisdiction.
The Novi Police Department and the Novi Community School District remain steadfast in providing a safe learning environment for all students. Any and all threats made against our schools, students, and staff will be fully investigated by all means necessary.

NOTE:  Police Reports come directly from the Police Department or agency involved and are written by the person or agency listed below the title.  We generally run these “as is” or with minimal editing for punctuation, spelling, etc. Suspects should not be presumed guilty.  Those needing more information about a case are encouraged to follow up with the reporting agency or court system for the most current information.
