Suspect Shot in Buttocks after Pulling Knife on Deputies in Pursuit

Pontiac, MI- INCIDENT:  21:03 hrs. – City of Pontiac – Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile (UDAA) / Vehicle Pursuit – Pursuit Immobilization Technique (PIT Maneuver) / Shots Fired – #18-17057 – FROM DAY SHIFT:  01-26-2018, 07:00 hrs. THROUGH MIDNIGHT SHIFT:  01-27-2018, 07:00 hrs.
SUMMARY:  Deputies responded to the area of N. Perry Street and Pike Street  at Happy’ s Pizza on the report of a possible carjacking/UDAA.  Additional information received from the victim was that the suspect stole her vehicle that was parked in front of Happy’s  Her vehicle was a white GMC Jimmy that fled eastbound on W. Huron Street (M-59).  The victim/owner called 911 in a panic and was following with her sister in her sister’s car. This was originally believed to be a carjacking but was ultimately determined to be an Auto Theft.
Deputies located the vehicle traveling eastbound on M-59 west of Rochester Rd. and attempted to stop the vehicle with emergency lights and siren.  The driver of the vehicle refused to stop continuing to travel eastbound on M-59.  The vehicle entered Macomb County into the City of Utica. The fleeing vehicle then made a turnaround onto westbound M-59 east of  Van Dyke. A Deputy initiated a PIT Maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique) that disabled the vehicle.  The suspect then fled on foot from the stolen vehicle and was pursued by Deputies. During the foot pursuit the suspect produced a large “Rambo” style knife and was shot in the buttocks by pursing Deputies. 
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  Detectives from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit, Auto Theft Unit, Utica PD and Macomb County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. No police officers were injured in the incident.  The suspect was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for medical care and is in good condition. 
The shooting portion incident is be investigated by Detectives from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office who also processed the scene. The Auto Theft portion is being handled by the OCSO Auto Theft Unit.
ARRESTEE INFORMATION:  19 year old male, resident of the City of Pontiac. He is currently on probation from the Oakland County 6th Circuit Court for a conviction on Firearms/ Dangerous Weapons. He has multiple arrests including: UDAA, B&E of a Motor Vehicle, Dangerous Drugs, Possession of Marijuana, Larceny From an Auto and Larceny in a Building.
