Ferndale, Pontiac, Holly, Novi – Residents throughout Oakland County and beyond have been reporting a streak of light with a noise that rattled homes and businesses on Tuesday evening.
There have not been any credible confirmations of the source, though it is widely speculated on social media to have been a meteor.
The National Weather Service Detroit Tweeted “After reviewing several observational datasets, the NWS can confirm the flash and boom was NOT thunder or lightning, but instead a likely meteor. We continue to monitor feeds from astronomical agencies for official confirmation of a meteor.”
The USGS (US Geological Survey) has confirmed that a meteorite burned up in the atmosphere near 25 Mile and Card Road in Macomb Township, causing a level 2 earthquake.
