Update on Injured Deputy Dave Hack, GoFundMe Page Established
Rochester Hills, MI – Family of Oakland County Deputy Dave Hack released an update via Facebook Friday evening. Christine Wojcik Hack posted “I just wanted to give everyone an update and ask that if you receive this, to please share it for me as we have received such a large outpouring of support that is just impossible for us to keep everyone updated.
“Dave is in critical, but stable condition. He has many broken bones in his neck, upper back, shoulders, face and head. He has a brain injury and is being monitored on a minute by minute basis by the very best medical people. The days ahead will likely give us many improvements and set backs but overall his condition is not getting worse, which is the best news we can hope for right now! It’s very good news.
“We appreciate all of your prayers, positive energy, support, and offers of help. I’d name everyone individually but don’t want to leave anyone out, just please know that we recognize every action, large or small, and love you all. Our family and, especially, David and Isabella, are receiving amazing care and attention from friends, family, Oakland County, Crittenton Hospital, the City of Rochester, and Rochester Schools. What we need most now is your continued prayers for Dave to have a quick and full recovery.”
Hack was struck by a vehicle while was hit by a passing car this morning at 7:40AM in front of Rochester Adams High School on Tienken Rd. east of Adams Rd. in the City of Rochester Hills. The Deputy was policing another car accident which had occurred earlier at that location when a second accident occurred. He was policing the second accident when a passing car struck him while he was outside of his patrol car.
The Rochester Community PTA Started a GoFundMe page for the family, stating “Many families have asked how they can help Deputy Dave Hack who is still in critical condition at Crittenton hospital. Right now thoughts, well wishes, and prayers are needed for him and his family. His family is receiving food and incredible support from the police department currently. One of our parents wanted to find a way to help the family moving forward, she started a go fund me page to be given to the family for their use or as a donation to the police department. Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett updated the community through Facebook, posting “By now many of you have heard about the tragic accident that occurred this morning just west of Adams High School on Tienken Rd. Deputy Dave Hack was struck while directing traffic for a minor accident he had come across and suffered significant injuries. He is a husband, father and 17 year veteran of the Sheriffs Department currently serving as the Police School Liaison Officer for Adams. He was taken to Ascension Crittenton where he remains in critical condition surrounded by his family and fellow deputies. Those are the facts while the other aspects of the crash are still being investigated.
“This afternoon I visited the ER to show support for one of our own. I was struck by the 30 other Sheriffs Deputies standing in the gap and supporting their brother. It was moving and powerful. He is greatly loved and greatly respected and it was evident by the red eyes in the waiting room and the folded hands in prayer across the entire ER. Several calls were made and local restaurants which quickly provided food for the family. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Rochester Community School District responded professionally and appropriately by calling in additional counselors and support for the Adams community. Several other municipalities sent deputies to cover our community so our Deputies could be there in the hospital waiting rooms. They will maintain a 24 watch on their brother in arms as long as needed. I saw community come together in the face of a tragedy. I saw strength and I felt love.
“Friends, if I may be so bold, I would ask your focus to be singular in nature. The scope of the injuries and the details of the accident are irrelevant at the moment. They will be addressed. Our focus, my focus, will solely be on fervent prayer for my friend Dave Hack and for his immediate and full recovery. I would ask you to join me.”
