Berkley Council Appoints Ross Gavin to Fill Vacancy

Berkley, MI – The Berkley City Council is pleased to announce that Ross Gavin will serve as the seventh member of the 37th Berkley City Council. Gavin, appointed at the December 18th council meeting, fills the unexpired term that was created when Daniel Terbrack vacated his seat to become the new mayor.

“I’m delighted to have this opportunity to serve the residents of Berkley,” said Gavin, Deputy Treasurer for Public Policy and Outreach in the Oakland County Treasurer’s Office. “There were a lot of great candidates seeking the position, and I’m very grateful to have been chosen. I look forward to working collaboratively with all residents, the council and the administration in making a positive impact on the city we call home.”

The city received 20 applications from residents interested in filling the position. The council subcommittee, comprised of Steven W. Baker, Eileen Steadman and Dennis Hennen, carefully reviewed each one and recommended that the entire council consider one the following six applicants for appointment: Ross Gavin, Susan Citraro, Bridget Dean, Lisa Kempner, Carla Osborne and Natalie Price. Gavin was selected by a majority vote.

“Although it was an incredibly difficult decision to make, Ross’s experience on the DDA, the Citizen’s Advisory Committee, and the Coolidge Committee showed a commitment to serve,” Mayor Terbrack said of the appointment. “I have no doubt that Ross will be able to use that knowledge and experience effectively for the residents of the Berkley, and I look forward to working him and all members of council over the next two years.

On January 22, 2018, Mr. Gavin will be sworn in as the new member of City Council. His term expires in November 2019, meaning he’ll have to run for office in two years if he wants to seek re-election.
