Reporter Food:  Burger at Chive Kitchen in Farmington

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Dec. 6, 2017)

Farmington, MI – A meeting of the media minds took place before election season at Chive Kitchen in Farmington as I had the privilege of dining with the Editor and Publisher of Farmington Voice Joni Hubred.

Hubred started Farmington Voice five years ago after working for other publications.  She covers Farmington and Farmington Hills with passion and determination, and sells advertising on the site to help cover the costs of production. I don’t normally cover Farmington because I like to give her space and see how her business grows. We try to meet once or twice a year to talk shop.  And when she suggested Chive Kitchen I was excited to try something new.

According to their website, “Chive Kitchen’s purpose is to offer vegan dishes that appeal to a wide range of tastes. Our menu taps into Portuguese and Western European flavor profiles as well as flavors from California’s fusion cuisine including Mexican dishes and many traditional comfort dishes made vegan.”

I went for the vegan house burger, which is a cannellini-seitan herbed patty with American cheese, dill relish sauce, pickles, romaine lettuce and caramelized onion on a burger bun.  It was absolutely the best vegan burger I’ve had.

Chive Kitchen makes their own specialty drinks including the Lucy and Ethel, the Blueberry Bitty and Kombucha.  I went for the Mint Tulip which is cardamom syrup, lemon juice, mint bitters and soda. I also had French Onion soup.
