Oak Park, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a fatal accident on Scotia in Oak Park between Kenwood and 9 Mile that occurred around 7pm Friday night.
Public Safety Director Steve Cooper stated “We had a fatal pedestrian vs motor vehicle accident in the area of Scotia and Kenwood. The driver of the vehicle was southbound on Scotia when the vehicle she was driving left the roadway striking an 84 year old male resident of Oak Park who was walking on the area. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. The accident is currently under investigation. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department is assisting with the reconstruction.”
As of 10:30pm Scotia was blocked off by police vehicles and tape at Kenwood to nearly 9 Mile. Officers on the scene were unsure how long the road would remain blocked for the investigation.
A woman living on Scotia stated that the accident happened on her front lawn. “I heard a noise outside my window looked out to see a car in my front lawn. The car took off. When I looked outside again there was body on the lawn,” she said with the promise of anonymity. “My son went out to see if the person was still living before the cops got here.”
After striking the man, the driver fled the scene along with her female passenger. The vehicle and the two women were found and taken into custody.
