Driver to Be Charged with Murder in Thanksgiving Day Death of Deputy Eric Overall

(Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Nov. 23, 2017)

Brandon Township, MI – Deputy Eric Overall, age 50 who was a 22 year veteran of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, was tragically killed this morning while deploying “Stop Sticks” on M-15 at the intersection of Seymour Lake Road in Brandon Township.  He was assisting the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit that had started in Lapeer County.  The suspect was being pursued by LCSO after he had been at the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office headquarters where his actions and threats there led to the pursuit.

The Medical Examiner has ruled the death of Deputy Overall a homicide and that he died of blunt force trauma.

The suspect is a 22 year old male from Macomb Township who is currently housed at the Macomb County Jail.  He has prior 4 prior convictions for Possession of Marijuana and a conviction for Resisting and Obstructing Police.

The Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit will be presenting a warrant request to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday. Deputy Overall was not in the roadway at the time, and in fact was well off the roadway and he had just deployed the “Stop Sticks” across SB M-15. It is our belief that from all evidence collected that the suspect deliberately ran down Deputy Overall swerving to hit him.

A GoFundMe Account has been established in Deputy Overall’s memory and assist his family in this most difficult time:
