The Oakland County African American Parent Network was established in 2008 to augment the growth of parental involvement within districts of Oakland County. This County Network provides support, collaboration and resources to enhance African American Parent Networks from the developmental to the execution stage and thereafter in any areas that the district networks need to continue expansion and develop capacity.
The County African American Parent Advisory/Planning Committee, an arm of the Oakland County African American Parent Network, was started in early 2009 to design, develop and implement services that would support the mission of the Oakland County African American Parent Network. Its members represent district parents from the respective African American Parent Networks in the County. These members serve two to three-year terms and are responsible to represent the needs of parents while incorporating the mission of LAC-O when designing county programs for each academic year.
Since 2007, networks have been established which represents the following districts: Avondale, Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Farmington, Ferndale, Novi, Pontiac, Rochester, Southfield, Troy, Walled Lake, and West Bloomfield. Each parent network has partnered with their district to provide parental understanding of student needs and enhance services and programs to impact student learning.
