Grant Helps Ferndale Get Golf in Elementary Schools

Ferndale, MI – Students at Ferndale Elementary Schools will soon be learning to play golf as part of their physical education classes.

With thanks to the First Tee organization, the program was announced in the Oct. 27 e blast from the district:

“We are very excited to welcome a new partner into our Ferndale Family. Recently we were informed that Ferndale Upper and Lower Elementary received a generous grant from the First  Tee program. This program will help us incorporate golf and  leadership into our elementary physical education curriculum.

“As part of the grant, both schools will receive golf equipment and leadership curriculum. The program will help students develop an appreciation for the positive personal and social values associated with golf. The First Tee curriculum teaches students valuable life skills,  including problem solving, managing time, and working well  with others.

“Students will also have the opportunity to engage in safe, fun lesson activities that lead to motor skill development  while attaining an introduction to golf.

“The First Tee program does a great job of  integrating character education with basic  golf instruction. We are very excited to have this program within our schools and look forward to the partnership,” said the announcement from Superintendent Dania Bazzi.
