2017 Candidate Interview: Saleem Siddiqi for Lathrup Village City Council

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 11, 2017)

Lathrup Village, MI – Saleem R. Siddiqi is one of five people running for three seats on Lathrup Village City Council in the Nov. 7, 2017 election.  The two highest vote-getters will have four year terms and the third highest will have a two year term.  Also on the ballot are Frank M. Brock, Ian A. Ferguson, Bruce Kantor, and Marcus Raudszus.

Siddiqi has lived in Lathrup Village 22 years.  He works as a CPA and volunteers with the Lathrup Village Time Bank, the Summer Stroll and the Children’s Garden.

“I just think Lathrup Village should be a great place to live for our people.  For our residents. So that’s kind of what I want to focus on.  It might sound simple, but to me it should be a simple city,” Siddiqi said.  “We’re there because we love the area, we love the location. The houses are beautiful. They’re old houses with a lot of history and charm. So I want to make sure that it’s a great place to live. What I mean by that is we should have great roads. We should have nice roads we can drive on. We should have places we can bike. We should have sidewalks so our residents can walk with their kids and their pets.  It should be a kid friendly city. We should have green spaces. We should have parks, and we do, but I think they should be maintained the best way they can be… Those kinds of things make a great city.”
