2017 Candidate Interview:
Madison Heights Councilperson Mark Bliss
(Crystal A. Proxmire, Oct. 1, 2017)
Madison Heights, MI – Madison Height Mayor Pro Tem Mark Bliss is seeking re-election to City Council in the Nov. 7, 2017 election. Also on the ballot vying for three seats are Ronald Butcher, Johnnette P. Eggert, Aaron Flanigan, Roslyn Grafstein, Mark L. Kimble, Emily Rohrbach and David M. Soltis.
Mayor Pro Tem Bliss is Director of Marketing for a software company based in Madison Heights. He was elected in 2013 and among his successes has been creating an Information Technology Advisory Committee that has found improvements in many departments and improved communication to residents. He’s also been part of creating an Arts and Cultural Committee, a Blight Task Force and allocating resources to an FBI Task Force. And he spoke of a new policy for replacing trees lost in construction projects.
“We had a very productive first term and that’s why I want to continue,” Bliss said. “I ran for office because my roots are here. My family’s lived here for over 50 years. I’ve got four generations living here today. And I want to make sure that my kids have the same memories and the same positive feeling about this city that they grow up in just like I did, and my dad before me. To do that, we need to innovate. We need to create a city and have the atmosphere that will fit with in the modern times without losing who we are as a community.”
