Coolidge Hwy. Resurfacing to Begin Oct. 2

(City of Berkley, Sept. 29, 2017)

Berkley, MI – Pavement Maintenance Systems, LLC, will begin the Resurfacing and Pavement Marking Replacement Project on Coolidge Highway between 11 and 12 Mile Roads during the week of October 2, weather permitting. The project will reconfigure pavement markings to meet current design and safety standards while also extending the service life of the roadway.

In order to minimize the impact on traffic, the majority of the work will be performed overnight, between the hours of approximately 9:00 pm and 6:00 am. Two-way traffic will be maintained during the nighttime operations. Motorists are advised to drive with caution in this area and comply with posted traffic signs.

The bulk of the work will take approximately one week to complete and includes the removal of pavement markings, application of two courses of micro-surface asphalt and replacement of long-line pavement markings/parking stalls. Temporary pavement markings for tapers, stop bars and crosswalks will be applied after the paving operations are completed. These temporary markings will remain in place for approximately two weeks. After that time, the final plastic pavement markings will be applied and the project completed.

NOTE: On-street parking will not be allowed on Coolidge Highway during the night operations. There will also be limited access to driveways and adjacent residential streets during the overnight construction hours. Access to commercial driveways will not be affected during the day however; access to businesses may be intermittently affected after 9 PM.

While every effort will be made to complete the project this fall, the potential does exist for postponement or other delays due to adverse weather conditions. If weather becomes a factor, the project will be postponed and rescheduled for completion in the spring of 2018. Project updates will be posted on the City website at:
