2017 Candidate Interview: Richard “Rick” Karlowski for Royal Oak City Commission

Royal Oak, MI –  Richard “Rick” Karlowski is one of five people running for three seats on the Royal Oak City Commission.  On the Nov. 7, 2017 ballot he will be on the ballot with incumbents Sharlan Douglas and David Poulton plus challengers Kim Gibbs, and Melanie Macey.

Karlowski is an engineer with training as an industrial engineer.  He has also has served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Citizens Traffic Committee and the Historic Commission which oversees care of the Orson Starr House.

He spoke about issues with the upcoming civic center development, Normany Oaks, parks, trees and residential road repavement.

“I’ve been active in the community for a number of years. You can see I’m on various committees. I care about the city and I think I have the knowledge of how development works, how finances work enough to ask specific questions and get straight answers. Also, again, I don’t claim to know everything. I want to make sure there isn’t any cronyism going on with our city. We should have open, upfront development. We should have requests for proposals for all city planned projects so that everybody can bid on it and you can know exactly what’s going on and I think that’s what’s lacking now with the current administration. And I think I would be a great candidate to bring transparency and clarity back to the City Commission,” Karlowski said.
