2017 Candidate Interview: Farmington Hills Mayor Ken Massey

Farmington Hills, MI –Farmington Hills Mayor Kenneth (Ken) Massey is unopposed in the Nov. 7, 2017 election, yet he still took the time to do an interview with Oakland County Times to connect with residents and talk about success and issues in the city.

There is contention in the Farmington Hills City Council race with four people running for three seats  Michael Bridges, Valerie Knol, Mary Newlin, and Samantha Steckloff.

Massey  has served on City Council since 2003, including 3 years as Mayor Pro Tem.  He ran for Mayor in 2015.  In addition to serving on council he has helped with the city’s Emergency Preparedness plan, served on Public Safety Committee of National League of Cities, been in the Michigan Municipal League, Greater Farmington Chamber, and helped found SAFE (Suicide Awareness for Everyone).

When asked why people should still cast a vote for him even though he is unopposed, Mayor Massey said “I would like that people understand who is their elected official. They need to come out and understand but we are all about, how their local government works for them. And part of that it’s getting to know those representatives are or who will be. I don’t take it lightly that the people are allowing me to run unopposed. I would love to think that’s because people are happy with the direction in which the city has been headed. That said, every opportunity I have to answer questions for them, To let them know what the issues are, and really engage our citizens gives us a little bit more of an opportunity to be reactive to what they need. And by learning about us, even though I may be unopposed, at least they can feel comfortable and say I know this person, I know they’re going to have my best interest at heart.
