Nature Abounds at Lyon Township Library

Lyon Township, MI – Walking along the edge of the Lyon Township Library property where the fresh cut grass meets the wildflower filled green space sends the most delightful chain reaction of grasshoppers jumping back to flee.

Plop. Plop. Plop. The sound is like popcorn and the plants jiggle with the insides landing like a baseball game wave, following the intruding human’s path.

Looking close, it is even more delightful to recognize the sea of curious wide eyes looking back from among the leaves.

The crescent of wild space leads back to the picturesque view of Lake Angela, which is lined by houses and condos and topped in areas by clusters of lily pads.

The Lyon Township Library has placed an emphasis on gardening and nature, even creating “LTPL Grows,” a group dedicated to local, organic gardening. According to their website, “It began with our Seed Sharing Library, in which people can borrow seeds and grow them to produce food and then save seeds from their crops and return them to the library when the season is over. Last fall we debuted our Demonstration Garden to the public. The garden plot was designed and built by Matthew Deeds as his Eagle Scout project.”
