State Police Chase Tire-Stealing Suspects From Royal Oak to Southfield

Royal Oak and Southfield, MI – On August 21, 2017 at approximately 9 00 PM, troopers from the Metro South Post troopers were contacted by Western Wayne CRT to assist with the arrest of suspects involved in a Larceny from Auto ring (tires and rims).

Information from the task force was that these individuals have possibly been involved for over 2 years with numerous thefts throughout the district.

Undercover units followed the suspects to the area of Lincoln and Campbell roads in the city of Royal Oak. Metro South troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspects as they were observed attempting to break into vehicles. One suspect vehicle stopped at the scene and the second vehicle struck a Metro South patrol vehicle when troopers attempted to make a stop.

A pursuit was initiated by troopers and ended in the area of Greenfield and 9 Mile roads in the city of Southfield. The suspect vehicle lost control and overturned when it struck a cement barrier. One occupant was ejected from the vehicle and a second was temporary trapped under the rolled over vehicle.

Troopers freed the second subject and EMS responded to provide medical aid. Both subjects were transported to local hospital and are listed in temporary serious condition.

Both vehicles were found to have been stolen. Three total suspects were either taken into custody or transported to the hospital from both arrest scenes. The three suspects are male, in their 30’s and from the Metro Detroit area.

No troopers reported injuries at this time. MSP patrol vehicle 2202 sustained minor damage from being struck by the suspect vehicle, but is drivable.

The suspects were wanted by several police agencies for their involvement in numerous thefts throughout the metro area as well as assaulting police officers in Canton Twp. This investigation is ongoing and detectives are continuing to gather information. The Western Wayne Community Response Team is a multi-jurisdictional task force led by the MSP and supported by many local agencies in western Wayne County.
