2017 Candidate Interview: Johnnette Eggert for Madison Heights City Council

(Crystal A. Proxmire, Aug. 22, 2017)

Madison Heights, MI –Johnette Eggert of Madison Heights is one of eight candidates running for three seats on the Madison Heights City Council. Also on the ballot are Mark Bliss, Ronald Butcher, Aaron Flanigan, Roslyn Grafstein, Mark L. Kimble, Emily Rohrbach and David M. Soltis.

Eggert is a substitute teacher with a political science degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, as well as a business owner and mother of two students in the Lamphere Schools. She has lived in Madison Heights for 17 years.

When asked why people should vote for her, Eggert said “I do know that the list is long. People should vote for the person they believe can get the job done.  We’ve had councilmembers that have been on quite a long time and yet still we have major complaints within our city for improvements.  I believe that as a fresh new voice and opinion to the table I can make a whole lot of difference within the city.  I also serve on the Multicultural Board and I have had the privilege of sitting with our Mayor in a few meetings as well as a few councilmen to listen to the programs they wish to implement to reach out to the city.  I also believe that I can be a handler and I can reach out to the businesses being that I’ve had my own business for many years. And I’ve had the privilege of working with other businesses in the area and in surrounding cities.  My experience in political science, my experience working as a substitute teacher, as a mom, as a wife, could play a great factor in representing the city and the citizens as well.”
