Highly acclaimed SWING LOW has already won six honors at a variety of national/international film festivals including a TV Pilot Award and has earned Phil Elam Best Actor in a lead role.  The award for BEST SONG also went to the original track, ”Faces” at GenreBlast in Virginia.  “This was in both the Short and Feature Film category”, Phil Elam explained. Most recently, SWING LOW has been selected to be screened at the prestigious Buffalo Niagara International Film Festival in September.
SWING LOW takes place in the days prior to the Civil War and follows the resilient life of an extraordinary slave named Samuel. When plantation owner Thompson sets out on a mission of murder a ride of supernatural terror ensues that tip the scales of justice toward the realm of revenge. “SWING LOW shows us,” Phil proclaims, “that any one person at any moment can make a stand for those for whom justice has been denied.”  Despite such hardship, limitation and suppression SWING LOW explores the lengths one will go to in order to ensure that justice is achieved – even after death.
Industry veteran Marvin Towns, Jr. immediately agreed to direct SWING LOW based upon the merit of the script.  Elam gives Mr. Towns credit for putting together an incredible production team who agreed to work on the film for virtually no money.  “The movie would not be what it is today if it weren’t for Marvin’s belief and incredible ability to bring the screenplay to life.”  Phil is also the screenplay author.
The film has expanded Elam’s growing theatrical resume which also includes acting in several television series including Lee Martin’s The Midnight Hour (2012) and Horror Hotel (2016).  He has also appeared in a number of music videos including two by Eminem, “Detroit Vs. Everybody” and “Rap God.”
