A Neighborhood View of
Lights & Sirens Parade in Ferndale (video)
Ferndale, MI – The Woodward Dream Cruise kicked off Friday evening in Ferndale as a parade of firetrucks and police vehicles drove proudly from E. 9 Mile Road, along Woodward Avenue and back through the east side neighborhood. Vehicles from several generations and locations made the Lights and Sirens Parade. There were vintage vehicles and ones in active use representing communities all over the country, and even one flying the red maple leaf flag of our neighbors to the north. Ferndale Police and Fire were of course included in the show.
Also included was the patrol car for West Bloomfield Police Sgt. Patrick O’Rourke who died in the line of duty on Sept. 9, 2012. He had been shot by a barricaded, suicidal gunman. His car was taken out of commission, given a custom paint job and dedicated in 2014. It’s been in the parade ever since.
