Highland Fall Festival Oct 7, 2017
HIGHLAND, MI– The first annual Highland Fall Festival plans are underway. The Festival will take place on October 7, 2017 from 12-5pm at the Highland Field (old Middle school property) at the corner of M-59 and John Street.
“This year’s festival is a complete celebration of the community. We are really trying to make it a totally interactive experience for everyone in the area,” said Erin Sabo, Director of Huron Valley Council for the Arts and the presenter of the festival.
Presented by HVCA with help from Highland Township, Highland DDA, Highland Activity Center, Highland Fire Department, Huron Valley Schools Pool and Fitness, Highland White Lake Business Association and sponsored by Szott Automotive and Renewal by Anderson, the festival this year is comprised of multiple different activities for the whole family.
The festival’s 5 main components: a chili-cook off, art and makers market, children’s activity area, beer tent (which will have the MSU/UofM game playing) and the Highland (twp) games are meant to engage every facet of the community. The games are a fall themed riff off of traditional Highland games and include things like the caber corn toss and a pumpkin gut tug o’war. All aspects of the games are open to the general public.
“Anyone can enter, anyone can win. We are working on even putting together a few special trophies for the schools, fire departments, and high school teams who compete. It’s a great way to earn bragging rights for the year,” said Sabo.
