Nine Injured and One Dead from Car Hitting Party Bus on I-75

(Troy Police, July 30, 2017)

Troy, MI – Troy Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a “party bus” that occurred on northbound I-75 south of Adams this morning at approximately 3 AM. The bus, occupied by 24 passengers, was stopped on the shoulder due to a mechanical issue when it was struck by a 2003 yellow Pontiac Sunfire traveling on the shoulder.

The passenger in the Pontiac Sunfire, a 22 year old male, was killed as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead on scene, removed from the vehicle by the Troy Fire Department and turned over to the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Pontiac driver, also a 22 year old male and the only other occupant of the car, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Royal Oak Beaumont by Alliance Mobile Health. Eight occupants of the party bus incurred minor injuries and were treated at St. Joseph Hospital, Pontiac.

The Troy Police Department and other members of the South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team (SOCCIT), a multi-jurisdictional unit, investigated at the scene. Two lanes of I-75 were closed for approximately 3.5 hours early this morning due to the investigation.

While the crash remains under investigation, it appears that alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor. Witnesses are asked to contact the Troy Police Department at 248-524-3477.
