Novi Police Earn Elite CALEA Accreditation

Novi, MI  – The Novi Police Department joined an elite group of law enforcement agencies from across the nation today when it received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
Known as the “gold standard” in law enforcement accreditation, less than 4 percent of law enforcement agencies in the country have earned this prestigious honor, including just nine others in Michigan.
The three-year, voluntary accreditation process was rigorous and time consuming. Staff worked tirelessly to comply with the 484 standards governing policing, and aided assessors during an onsite review earlier this year.
“This exclusive honor further solidifies the Novi Police Department’s commitment to excellence, transparency and building relationships with all community members,” said Director of Public Safety / Chief of Police David E. Molloy. “I am extremely proud to lead this group of men and women who hold themselves to the highest standards in law enforcement.”
The Novi Police Department’s pursuit of accreditation was aimed at improving the delivery of public safety services and aligning those services with standards of excellence. CALEA’s standards were developed by public safety practitioners, and the accreditation process ensures the professional standards and processes for decision-making are upheld. The standards serve as a blueprint for best practices, and re-accreditation is required after four years.
