Teen Drowns at Dodge No. 4 State Park

Waterford, MI – INCIDENT: 18:12 hrs. – July 8, 2017 – Waterford Township – Assist to Law Enforcement / Drowning / OCSO Dive Team Activation – #17-123976
SUMMARY: The Waterford Township Police Department and Fire Department requested the assistance of the OCSO Dive Team at the 4000 block of Parkway St. (Dodge No.4 State Park – Cass Lake) for a 15 year old male drowning victim. The victim was swimming in the Lake, about 1000 yards from shore, when his friends observed that he was having difficulty swimming. They then lost sight of the victim when he disappeared under the water.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: The OCSO Dive Team responded to the area and began rescue operations. The victim was located and recovered by the OCSO Dive Team at 00:54 hours in approximately 9 feet of water. The victim’s family members were on scene and advised that the victim had been recovered from the lake.
An Investigator from the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and took custody of the victim. An autopsy has been scheduled for the morning.
VICTIM INFORMATION: 15 year old male, resident of the City of Dearborn.

UPDATE (from OCSO, 3:40pm – July 9, 2017) –
Time: Approximately 6:15 PM
Victim: Mohammad Wutwut , 15 year old male, resident of Dearborn, Mi.
Location: Cass Lake, Waterford Township, MI
The Waterford Police Departments, it’s Regional Fire Department, and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and Dive Team responded to Cass Lake on report of a 15 year old drowning. A Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit jump boat was put into the water within 15 minutes of the call and soon after two divers entered the water to attempt the rescue of the young man.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office received capable and rapid assistance from Waterford Police, Waterford Regional Fire Department, DNR Officers, Keego Harbor Police, as well as Park Rangers.
Through the use of sonar devices the Deputies identified and marked possible areas in which the location of the young man was possible. Divers recovered his body approximately 300 feet from shore in 9 feet of water. The 1,200 acre lake bottom has heavy bottom growth and weeds were very dense with zero visibility in the area his body was recovered from.
