Dumpster Fire at Red Roof Inn on Rochester Ct. in Troy
(Troy Fire Dept, July 6, 2017)
Troy, MI – Thursday July 6, 2017 On Wednesday July 5, 2017 at 8:23 pm (2023 Hours) there was a fire in the dumpster of Red Roof Inn, 2350 Rochester Ct, Troy, MI 48084
The fire department responded to a report of a dumpster fire in the lot of this location. Caller indicated there were employees on the dumpster trying to extinguish the fire. Upon arrival, firefighters reported a working fire in a large, 40-yard, commercial dumpster, which was within 5 feet of the 2-story, large, wood-framed hotel. Heavy smoke obscured the dumpster, making it challenging to extinguish. The dumpster was being used to hold debris from the on-going remodeling process inside the building.
Initial observations indicated that the building may be involved. A primary search was initiated to remove occupants from the immediate area. Approximately 6 occupants were temporarily relocated until the fire was extinguished. Further investigation confirmed that the building was not involved in the fire. Due to the size of the dumpster and the amount of burning debris, a large tow vehicle was requested from A & M Towing Service to assist with accessing the burning debris by pulling the dumpster away from the building. Once A & M was able to empty, and then secure the dumpster, firefighters were able to completely extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire is not known, and damage estimates are incomplete. The occupants were allowed to return to their rooms later that evening. There were no injuries or fatalities reported.
No further details are available at this time.
