(Royal Oak Police, June 29, 2017)
Royal Oak, MI – Shooting and Stabbing Investigation
The Royal Oak Police Department is investigating a shooting and stabbing that occurred at the Woodward North Apartments, located at 3027 W. 13 Mile. On June 25, 2017 just before 2:00pm, a 911 caller reported a fight involving a knife and a vehicle in the parking lot of the complex. Officers arrived in moments and located a male victim who had been stabbed in the arm and discovered another male who had been shot in the leg. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and attempted to locate the shooting suspect with the assistance of a K-9 Officer. Both injured males were transported to Beaumont hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the shooting suspect was not located.
Information from the initial investigation determined a 26-year-old Lathrup Village resident came to the apartments to confront a 35-year-old Royal Oak resident regarding an ongoing personal disagreement. The two subjects got into a fight after the argument escalated. After the fight, the 35-year-old fled into an apartment then returned with several knives and assaulted the 26-year-old with a knife. A third subject, who had accompanied the 26-year- old, shot the 35-year-old after the stabbing. All three subjects fled the area of the altercation in separate directions after the shooting. An altercation between the stabbing victim and the shooting victim continued a short time later in the parking lot just prior to officers arriving at the scene.
The 35-year-old Royal Oak resident has been arrested and remains in custody. The 26-year- old Lathrup Village resident was taken into custody and has since been released pending further investigation.
Royal Oak Detectives with the assistance of the Troy Special Investigation Unit, a multi- jurisdictional investigative team with a Royal Oak officer assigned, located the suspected shooter. Detectives discovered the 26-year-old male CPL holder from Detroit was stabbed during the incident and was released pending further investigation.
