Hit and Run Suspect’s Vehicle Type Identified, Police Seek Tips

Springfield Township, MI –The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a fatal hit and run crash that occurred upon Ormond Road south of French Lane on June 3, 2017 at 1:30 AM.

A possible suspect vehicle has been identified as a 2002 or 2003 light colored Mitsubishi Galant. A picture of a 2002 Galant is attached below. The suspect vehicle should have left front end damage and it is missing the left front fog lamp assembly.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers @ 1-800-SPEAK-UP. There is a $2,500 cash reward being offered and you will remain anonymous.

The crash remains under investigation.

Springfield Twp, MI – The Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting deputies with the Springfield Township Substation in the investigation of a fatal traffic crash.  The traffic crash occurred on Ormond Road south of French Lane at approximately 1:30 a.m. this morning.

Michael Bailey, A 63 year old resident of Springfield Township, was driving a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Ormond Road, south of French Lane.  Mr. Bailey lost control of the Harley Davidson attempting to avoid a deer in the road and collided with the deer.  After the collision with the deer, the motorcycle went down on its side, ejecting Mr. Bailey, and came to rest after sliding down the road.

Mr. Bailey was lying on the road when a vehicle traveling southbound ran over his body.  That unknown vehicle fled the scene.  It is a white or silver vehicle with minor damage to the driver’s side of the front of it.  The Crash Reconstruction Unit is working to identify the make and model of that vehicle and will release more information when it is available.

Mr. Bailey was wearing a helmet.  He was pronounced dead at the scene of the traffic crash.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs are a factor in this crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
