Ferndale Library Free Concert: The Theatre Bizarre Orchestra Aug. 8
Ferndale, MI – Nothing sweeter than some fine live music in a serene setting during the soft-glowing sunset of a summer’s eve!
The Ferndale Library’s Summer Concert Series has always strived to expose library visitors to music that is new and exciting in a setting that is both lively and thoughtful. FADL’s biggest music event features three free, family-friendly concerts spread across the season, each beginning at 6:30pm on a trio of second Tuesdays: Jun 13, Jul 11, and Aug 8. The series is sponsored by the Friends of the Ferndale Library, which allows the library to book big names and bring bold performances to the public.
Artists featured this year include Detroit-based singer/songwriter Dan John Miller of the renowned Americana/rock outfits Blanche and Goober & The Peas (performing Jul 11), and the transcendent Theatre Bizarre Orchestra’s blend of burlesque, rock & roll, jazz, and vaudeville culture (performing Aug 8).
“One of the best days to be at the library is during one of our Summer Concerts,” said Kelly Bennett, who coordinates the series . “A great crowd always shows up, there’s music filling up the whole library, and the artists we seek out for this series are always a diverse blend of genres and traditional styles.”
This series of monthly performances is an ideal way for local music fans and families to spend a summer evening. Our roster of bands and musicians will actually be performing during regular library hours, which creates a cheerful effect of marvelous music resonating throughout the whole library (at mostly agreeable volume levels.) Every reader needs to rock out a bit, right?
Funds raised by bi-annual bake sales, bolstered by the support of the Friends of the Ferndale Library, helps produce a fun and exciting three-part series of monthly weeknight concerts featuring top tier talents from around the region.
MORE ABOUT THE BANDS
June 13 – 6:30 pm
Raion Taiko will feature a quartet of professional Japanese drum artists, with a range of percussive instruments, including an Odaiko, a drum carved from a single tree spanning three ft in diameter. The harmonious Taiko drum arrangements developed out of a tradition sprung from Japanese folklore, dating back more than a thousand years.
July 11 – 6:30 pm
Dan John Miller is a nationally-acclaimed songwriter and was something of an early mentor to Jack White. Local fans revel at his theatrical performances at DIY Street Fairs under the alias “Goober” of Goober & The Peas, and you may have seen him in films, such as 2005’s Johnny Cash biopic, Walk The Line.
August 8 – 6:30 pm
The Theatre Bizarre Orchestra is the house band for Detroit’s annual Theatre Bizarre Halloween Event. These masterful musicians invoke the spirit of dark carnivals, demented circuses, and ribald debauchery, which can only be defined as neo-vaudeville. Their music is captivating and mesmerizing, and their show blends the ethereal with the burlesque in one fell swoop.
