Reporter Food: Many Tastes of Twisted Tavern

(Crystal A. Proxmire, May 11, 2017)

Ferndale, MI – My Oakland County culinary adventures continued recently with a visit to Twisted Tavern at 22901 Woodward Ave. in Ferndale where I met with Ferndale Chamber Board Member and roofer extraordinaire Dale Vigliarolo of Lakepointe Construction and his wife Karin. We ordered several appetizers to share, and tacos for the main course.

New to me was Ahi Tuna. This sushi-quality fish was tender like steak.  It was served lightly seasoned with roasted red pepper coulis.

Another interesting selection was the Brussels sprouts & kale fusion, flash fried, crispy, balsamic drizzle.

And we also had Sweet Potato Tater Tots, which were quite delicious.

For the main course I went with the steak tacos, made of tenderloin, peppers, onions, lettuce, cheddar jack, and pico de gallo.

We chatted for a couple hours, savoring a bottle of wine along with the food, enjoying the live music and the plush atmosphere while the people and cars on Woodward and Withington passed by.  The owner, Mark McConnell came to visit as well, and we all had fun talking about Ferndale news.  I got a good scoop about news at the Ferndale Chamber (that I’ll be writing about shortly), and I got to hear about the challenges in the roofing profession due to a shortage of skilled labor.  If there is any advice Vigliarolo would have for the youth of the world it’s to consider going into a skilled trade, where wages and demand are high especially with the economy on the rise and more people building.
