Fire Damages Six Vehicles at McLaren Clarkston

Clarkston, MI – INCIDENT:  15:39 hrs. – Independence Township – Multiple Vehicle Fire / Assist to the Fire Department – #17-80849

SUMMARY:  Deputies and the Independence Township Fire Department responded to multiple vehicles fires in the parking lot of McLaren Clarkston Medical Center located at 5701 Bow Pointe Drive.  A motorist had stopped his vehicle in the parking and noticed that smoke and flames were coming from his vehicles engine compartment.  He then called 9-1-1 to have the fire department respond.

OUTCOME OF INCIDENT:  Firefighters from the Independence Township Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire.  There were no injuries reported and there was no damage done to the structure of the medical building.  The fire occurred when the driver of a vehicle that had been overheating pulled into the parking lot of the medical center and stopped. When the driver opened the hood, he observed flames coming from the engine compartment.  Due to the high winds, the fire quickly spread to six (6) other vehicles that were parked nearby.  A total of seven (7) vehicles were damaged by fire during this incident. The incident remains under investigation.
