Ferndale Schools Hosting Superintendent Search Input Sessions April 19 & 20

Ferndale Schools Hosting Superintendent Search Input Sessions April 19 & 20

(Ferndale Schools, April 13, 2017)

Ferndale, MI – Earlier this week the Ferndale Schools Board of Education approved the selection of Dr. Marlene Davis of the Michigan Association of School Boards to assist us with the search for our next Superintendent.  The selection of the Superintendent is the most important duty of a School Board and with the help of Dr. Davis we will perform a comprehensive and vigorous search for our next leader.

Due to the timing of our vacancy we have adopted an aggressive timeline for this search with the plan of having our new Superintendent begin in early July.  To assist us in identifying the attributes the community feels are most crucial in our next leader we are seeking your input.  Next week, Dr. Davis will be hosting two evening meetings to engage the community.

Wednesday, April 19th, 7pm at the Tri-County Education Center (Formerly the Grant building), 21131 Gardenlane, Ferndale, MI 48220.

Thursday, April 20th, 7pm in the Ferndale High School Auditorium, 881 Pinecrest, Ferndale, MI 48220

If you are unable to make it to either of these meetings but still wish to provide input you can complete a survey created by Dr. Davis at:

After Dr. Davis gathers insight from the community and staff we will hold a Board of Education workshop at 6pm on April 24th at Ferndale High School.  At this workshop we will review the feedback provided by the community, develop the final selection criteria, and begin planning for the interview process.  On April 25th the final selection criteria will be added to the job posting with a deadline of May 15th to apply.

The Board will next meet at 6pm on May 22nd at Ferndale High School with Dr. Davis to determine the candidates to interview, and continue our preparation for that process.  On May 30th and 31st at 6pm at Ferndale High School we will be conducting our initial interviews and selecting the candidates for the next round.

The final round of interviews will consist of a visit to the district by the finalists on June 1st and 2nd and will culminate with their attendance at the June Fair. The final formal interview before the Board of Education will take place on Saturday, June 3rd.  The Board will then conduct a visit to the finalists current District between June 6th -9th and meet to select the next Superintendent on June 12th.

As you can see this will be a lengthy and in depth process over the next few months.  Please note that all Board of Education meetings for this process are open to the public and we encourage our community to join us.  To keep the community as informed as possible we will be posting any updated information on this process on our website, our Facebook page, and in the district eBlast.  If you have any questions regarding our superintendent search please contact Mr. Bill Good our Director of Communications and Pupil Services at

On behalf of the Board of Education I want to thank you for assisting us in this process.  Together we will find the next leader of Ferndale Schools.

Thank you,

Jennifer LaTosch
