Clawson Easter Egg Hunt Scores Big on City Field

(Mark H. Stowers, April 8, 2017)

Clawson, MI – Normally the field is laden with touchdowns and soccer goals but on Saturday, City Park Stadium field in Clawson was lined with Easter eggs filled with treats. The eighth annual Clawson Easter Egg Hunt brought out families from all over Oakland County to partake in the tradition. Normally held in the wooded area of the park, the hunt was moved to the football/soccer field due to muddy conditions.

There were plenty of eggs for the 400-500 kids who showed up for the hunt, according to Clawson Mayor Penny Luebs.

“We had close to 4,000 eggs and I think it’s a wonderful experience for the kids to be out with their families in the sun,” Mayor Luebs said. “This has been around about eight years. This year we had more kids than last year.”

Charlie Baker took part with his parents Clare and Phil.

“I got Easter eggs,” Charlie said. “Five of them.”

A group of kids from Bloomfield Hills took part with family and friends. Emily, Ireland, Patrick, Terry, Emily and Landry were each excited to be part of the Easter festivities.

“The best part was going with my friends,” Emily said. Patrick added that he “found 11 eggs.”

The group was excited to see the Easter Bunny as well who sat in the Clawson Trojan home stands to have photos made with kids and families alike. Nicole Siwak volunteers to help with the event as she brings kids to help distribute eggs from the Acting Out Kid Community Theatre in Clawson.

“My kids and I have been volunteering for the past six and the kids from the theatre have volunteered the last three years,” Siwak said. “The kids all get together and hide all the Easter eggs and they supervise for all of the designated areas.”

Kids from ages one to 12-years of age took part in the event.
