14 Year Old Suspected of Shooting 15 Year Old in Pontiac

INCIDENT: 23:14 hrs. – City of Pontiac – Shooting / Request for the OCSO Forensic Science Lab – #17-47926
SUMMARY: Deputies and the Waterford Regional Fire Department responded on the report of a shooting that had occurred in the 100 block of Wall Street. The 9-1-1 caller reported someone had had just been shot. The caller also advised that there were a group of juveniles gathering in front of his residence in a panic. Upon arrival, Deputies were led to a second story bedroom where they located the 15 year old male victim who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. The victim lay unconscious and exhibited labored breathing. Paramedics from Star EMS arrived on the scene and transported the victim to McLaren Hospital – Oakland for medical treatment.
OUTCOME OF INCIDENT: Detectives and the OCSO Forensic Science Lab responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Three juveniles who were present in the home when the shooting occurred, including the 9-1-1 caller, were transported back to the Pontiac Substation to speak with Detectives. The victim’s family was notified of the incident and was advised that the 15 year old had been transported to McLaren Hospital. The victim was subsequently transferred to Children’s Hospital located in the City of Detroit where he is listed in critical condition. During the course of speaking with witnesses, Detectives were able to identify one of the three juveniles as the shooter. The weapon, a .32 caliber handgun, used in the incident was found in the backyard of a neighboring residence. The remaining juveniles were released to their parents. The responsible juvenile was lodged at Oakland County Children’s Village. The victim and suspect are best friends and detectives are trying to determine if this was an accidental discharge of the weapon. The incident remains under investigation.
